Roma (R): Although most of the students on campus already know who you are, would you mind introducing yourself to our audience?

Mr. Hand (H): Who are you? What kinda question is that! How am I supposed to answer that question? WHO ARE YOU! I'm Mr. Hand.

R: What do you do here?

H: TEACH! MATH. (he evilly chuckles) You want the corny goofy answer? I teach children. I don't teach math, I teach young adults. That sounds better.

R: How did you start teaching at Prep?

H: I drove into the parking lot. Walked into my classroom, picked up my expo marker and taught. I was at another school around the corner, Servite. I was looking for a very academically motivated student body, and Fairmont was the perfect place for that.

R: Which class do you enjoy teaching the most?

H: Probably advanced discrete math and number theory. It's a more logic and critical thinking class rather than a step by step following procedure class.

R: How are you a math teacher teaching the most advanced math class on campus with a poetry degree?

H: I had a degree in math and a master's degree in math. I got my master's at UC Riverside.

R: How did you start teaching math? First place you taught?

H: Servite high school. I’ve only taught at two places my entire career.

R: Why did you stay at Fairmont?

H: Where else could I work with such dedicated and hardworking students?

R: What do you think makes a good student?

H: Someone who is hardworking, dedicated, and actually values their education and not just a grade.

R: What is one piece of advice you wish students would take?

H: They need to listen to me more.

R: Are you a wise person?

H: Yes, because I'm an old person who has a lot of experience.

R: What is the best piece of wisdom you can give?

H: Always work hard and do your best, but don't stress and worry too much about your rewards. But when you've tried your hardest, you'll know that you've tried your best. Also- LISTEN TO ME.

R: After your students graduate, what do you do?

H: After a short time, there is a transition for when they go into college, some of them longer, some of them shorter, but then they eventually move on to their college friends and professors.

R: What advice do you have for students who graduate?

H: It is very important to work hard and do your best, but take care of yourself and don't compare yourself to other people. The only thing you can control is effort.

R: Where do you see yourself in ten years?

H: Probably still here doing the same thing. Teaching. In 25 years, I will be teaching your children.

R: What is your ranking of the best beverages in the fridge?

H: Coke orange vanilla, Doctor pepper, Mountain Dew.

R: What is the best Girl Scout flavor?

H: Thin mints.

R: Mr. Hand is addicted to sugar.

H: (laughs) Yes, I am.
