As the pandemic begins to reach its end, U.S. technology companies are preparing to layoff thousands of employees, due to the decline of pandemic-era excesses. During the pandemic, people all over the world stayed in their homes more than ever before, and this corresponded to an increase in technology use. Schools had fully online classes on Zoom while families were non-stop stocking and purchasing items through online applications like Amazon.
To minimize the excess of workers and maximize productivity efficiency, large technology companies are turning toward layoffs. Amazon’s layoff of 18,000 employees benefits the company itself, yet it creates new problems for these people. In general, the tech sphere is becoming more limited, and people are having more difficulty being able to find a job opportunity in popular technology sectors. Recent college graduates may have the least experience as well, causing them to be less likely to be selected as employees. Similar to Amazon, Microsoft declared its plan to cut about 10,000 jobs. The uncertain economic conditions of the post-pandemic era are the main cause of these massive layoff counts.
